This recipe uses a boxed cake mix to simplify a bit so you can focus on decorating your DIY princess cupcakes. We will need a few special items to complete the look, but they are easily found on Amazon. To get started, you’ll need to make sure you have the right rose silicone mold. You’ll also need some pearl candies, a decorator piping bag, and a star tip. Here’s the exact yellow food coloring I use in the recipe as well. You can even grab the red fondant online.
You can also dress up (no pun intended- LOL) your Beauty and the Beast desserts with these gold cupcake liners.
Making the enchanted roses isn’t difficult, but Wilton also has a premade version you can buy if you’d rather do that. If you buy roses, don’t forget this recipe makes 24 cupcakes, although I’ve been known to cut the recipe in half and store the extra cake mix for our next treat.

How to Make Disney Princess Cupcakes
Makes 24 cupcakes
1 box of vanilla cake mix
1 cup of water
3 large eggs
⅓ cup of vegetable oil
3 tubs of vanilla frosting
Wilton lemon yellow icing color
Wilton red fondant
1M Wilton tip
1 Wilton disposable piping bag
White candy pearl sprinkles
Preheat oven to 350 F and line your cupcake pan with the cupcake liners of your choice. Blend cake mix, oil, eggs, and water in a large bowl (follow the instructions on your specific box of cake mix).
Pour batter in the cupcake pan and bake for 18-21 minutes. Remove the cupcakes when they’re done and let the cupcakes cool completely before frosting.
How do I make candy roses?
While waiting for the cupcakes to cool, take the Wilton red fondant and knead it until it is easy to work with. Add a small amount of fondant the rose mold.
Be sure to press down on the fondant to fill all the crevices in the rose mold. Once you have done that, bend the mold to release the rose and set aside. Repeat until you have as many roses as you need.
To make the bright yellow for Belle’s dress you will need to add 2-3 drops of Wilton Lemon Yellow icing color to the vanilla frosting. Using a toothpick, add a small amount of the yellow coloring to the frosting and mix together.
If it is not bright enough add a tiny bit more, checking the color after you stir it.
Make sure you don’t add too much at a time or you may end up with frosting that is too dark. Once you have achieved the color you like, add the 1M tip to the decorating bag and fill with the bright yellow frosting.
Frost the cupcakes one by one. Once all the cupcakes have been frosted, then add one of the red roses to the top of each cupcake. Finally, add the white candy pearls around the dress for the perfect Belle-inspired cupcakes.
