Disney’s Epcot & World Showcase

Epcot, Disney’s second oldest theme park, opened in 1982 and is probably one of the most recognized theme parks in the world with its iconic Spaceship Earth geosphere. Walt Disney’s original dream for Epcot was that it would be a self-contained city, that dream was never fulfilled, but what has emerged instead is a single park that contains two theme parks inside.

Epcot is twice the size of Disney’s Walt Disney World, and as mentioned before essentially has two theme parks inside. Future World where you can experience both past and future technological innovations, and The World Showcase where you can experience the food, art, music, architecture, and culture of eleven different countries. So let’s take a good look at the attractions, shows, food, and more that you will find at Epcot.

SPECIAL NOTE: With the current state of construction in the park there are several rides, shows & restaurants that are temporarily unavailable. All of the locations are listed but there’s a note next to the title if it’s closed currently.

Table of Contents

Rides at Epcot

Frozen Ever After

Frozen Ever After is located in the Norway pavilion and is a great place to see all of your favorite Frozen characters. Frozen Ever After is a gentle boat ride through the dark that is suitable for all ages.

Test Track

Test Track is a fast-paced ride that allows you to design your own convertible car. After designing your car put it through the paces at a test track and see how your particular design performs compared to other rider’s designs. This ride concludes with a high speed (65 mph) lap around the outside of the building. After exiting the ride you do some other things with the virtual car you designed like pose for pictures and driving it on a virtual track.

Journey Into Imagination

Journey into Imagination is a slow-moving dark ride that takes you on a journey through the five senses. This ride is suitable for all ages, with no height requirements, and generally speaking the wait time for this ride is pretty short.

Spaceship Earth

The Spaceship Earth ride is located inside the iconic geodesic sphere that everyone recognizes from Epcot. This is a slow-moving ride that takes you through the history of communication. Beginning with cave paintings, progressing through to the printing press, and then to computers. The ride ends with a view of Earth from space.

Living with the Land

Living with the land is a leisurely boat ride that takes you past a series of greenhouses and sets that show how the plants at Disney World are grown. The narrator explains the importance of agriculture and some of the food that you see being grown is shaped like Mickey Mouse. This ride is about 14 minutes long, and some of the food you see being grown here is used in the Disney World restaurant and resort kitchens.

Mission: Space

This ride is a motion simulator that lets you pretend to be an astronaut, and there are two different versions of the ride. The family-friendly version of Mission Space-Earth only requires you to be 40 inches tall and is less intense than the original version of the ride. While this green milder version may be less intense for younger passengers, the views from Earth are absolutely amazing.

The orange version of this ride Mission Space-Mars is the original version of the ride and is significantly more intense with a lot more motion to it. You have to be at least 44 inches tall to ride this version. If you are prone to motion sickness this is probably not the ride for you. However, there is a fun and engaging exit area from the ride where non-riding members of your party can wait.

The Seas with Nemo and Friends

The Seas with Nemo and Friends is located between The Land Pavilion and SpaceShip Earth at Epcot. You will ride aboard the Clam mobile to deep under the seas where you will see Nemo and all of his friends. This slow-moving, ride in the dark under the sea, uses musical numbers and puppetry to tell the tale of Nemo. This ride incorporates the 2nd largest saltwater aquarium in the world, with more than sixty species of marine life that you will see as you go through the ride. This is a ride that you do not want to miss if you are visiting Epcot.

Soarin’ Around the World

Soarin’ is a simulated hang gliding experience with some amazing views. Your ride vehicle lifts you high in front of a large screen where you then hang glide over landmarks from around the world. At some points in the ride, you can even smell what you see on the screen.

Gran Fiesta Tour

The Gran Fiesta Tour is located in the Mexico Pavilion and is a boat ride through a Three Caballeros Concert gone awry. Donald Duck is missing and the show can’t go on without him. The ride shows Donald Duck seeing the sights of Mexico while the other two Caballeros try to track him down.

Shows and Attractions at Epcot

There are some amazing shows, films, and more for you to experience at Epcot. These shows and attractions make your day at Epcot all the more exceptional and offer an opportunity to experience cultures from around the globe.

Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival

The Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival is a 4-D movie with three popular animated short films in the Magic Eye Theater, located inside of the Imagination Pavilion.

Turtle Talk with Crush

Turtle Talk with Crush features Crush from the movie Finding Nemo. An actor voices the character while also controlling what is seen up on the screen. The technology used here is unique and several of the characters from Finding Nemo and Finding Dory are in the show.

Awesome Planet

This ten-minute film located in the Land Pavilion features Ty Burrell (Modern Family) trying to sell Planet Earth to the viewers as a place to live. The film shows Earth’s diverse landscapes and the musical score and videography are really amazing to see.

Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along

This attraction shares a theater with Impressions de France, so it is only available before 7 pm. This short sing-along story follows the plot of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast with one small twist, LeFou (Gaston’s sidekick) was actually secretly working behind the scenes to bring Belle and the Beast together.

DuckTales World Showcase Adventure

This attraction is supposed to open soon. For this adventure, you will sign up on your phone and pick the pavilion of your choice. You will then be sent a series of short puzzles to solve and clues to help you. Solving some of the puzzles will make things physically happen around you, so people may ask how you did that.
